A battle of two unbeaten squads in the SEC meet in Oxford on Saturday as the 14th ranked Rebels and the 7th ranked Wildcats clash in a battle of 4-0 teams.
Stop Chris Rodriguez
The Kentucky rushing attack hasn’t done much of anything yet this season. The Wildcats are rushing for 2.4 yards per carry. That is No. 123 in the nation. The main reason is that their All-SEC running back was suspended for the first month for an off-field issue. Now he is back, the running game is set to break out, which will, in turn, allow quarterback Will Levis to go off. Ole Miss has to stop this from happening. If the Rebels can keep Kentucky one-dimensional, they will have to deal with a future pro passer in Levis, but it will at least give them a chance not to deal with both heads of Kentucky’s offense.
Convert On Third Down
This is a game where Ole Miss will have to dictate the tempo. The Rebels rush for 281 yards per game – the best mark in the SEC – and that rushing attack allows quarterback Jaxson Dart to pick his spots. We will need the Rebels to convert on something close to 60% of first downs here to keep things ticking over and to keep what is a very dangerous Kentucky offense off of the field.
Stop The Long Touchdowns
The Kentucky offensive line.isn’t exactly a wall. Levis was sacked five times last weekend by a Northern Illinois pass rush that isn’t exactly the ‘85 Bears. What did work for the Wildcats was Levis bombing on the Huskies. He hit touchdown passes of 40, 69, and 70 yards, game-changing passing plays that pushed the Wildcats over the top. Levis will hit his passes, but stopping long touchdowns will be huge.
