Vanderbilt Three Keys: Tennessee

Three-keys-Vanderbilt

The Vanderbilt Commodores host rival Tennessee at Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium. Here are your three keys to a Commodore victory.

Pressure Jarrett Guarantano

Gaurantano is no Drew Lock or Jordan Ta’amu but he is a dangerous QB. Guarantano broke a 15-year old school record against Kentucky on Nov. 10, throwing his 144th consecutive pass without an interception. Gaurantano has completed a healthy 140 of 217 passes for 1,768 yards, 11 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Vandy needs to send a message early that they won’t let Gaurantano beat them.

No early Christmas presents

UT’s offensive isn’t one of the more explosive offenses in the SEC. The Vol defense likes to feast on turnovers. Auburn is a team that learned this the hard way. Once UT’s offense capitalizes on a turnover, the Vol defense does well at making it hard for opponents to score. Just don’t turn it over.

Play smart

Stupid penalties may have caused Vandy to lose at Missouri. Stupid penalties almost cost the Commodores the game with Ole Miss. Play smart. No 15-yard penalties on third and 1. No tossing the ball away after scoring a TD in overtime. Again, these pitiful attempts at returning kickoffs are getting old. Fair catch it and take the ball at the 25.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 3 pm CT and can be seen on the SEC Network.
