Texas A&M Three Keys: Mississippi State

Three-keys-Texas A&M

Texas A&M did enough to beat Arkansas last week even without much working on offense. Mississippi State beat up Bowling Green 45-14 as they tried to vanquish their defeat by LSU the week before.

Here are the three keys to an Aggie win over Mississippi State:

Keep It Low Scoring

The Texas A&M offense is a mystery. The parts are all there, but nothing is working properly. That didn’t get any better either with wide receiver Ainais Smith – the guy expected to be the go-to as the year progresses – being lost for the season last weekend. Max Johnson was only 11-of-21 for 151 yards and a score, with the transfer not pushing the ball down the field. A high-scoring game benefits the Bulldogs, with Will Rogers at quarterback being perfectly capable of putting up big numbers.

Find A Way To Control Clock

Mississippi State is a little weird this year. Mike Leech offenses usually find a way to win by controlling the clock with a little bit of a running game and plenty of short and mid-range passes to keep the clock moving. That hasn’t been happening, and it certainly didn’t happen in the loss to LSU. The Tigers had the ball for 33 minutes and seemed to be the team in possession for almost the entire second half. A&M hasn’t been able to control the clock worth at all in 2022, this would be a great week to start.

Run The Ball

The way that the Aggies beat Arkansas was largely down to the running of lead back Devon Achane. Achane has legit speed and plenty of power, but he had been quiet in 2022. He rushed for 159 yards against the Hogs, finally giving the Aggies a player on offense proving to be reliable when called upon. If the Aggies are to bet the Bulldogs by keeping Will Rogers off the field, then Achane will need another big day.
