Mississippi State-Alabama Prediction
The Mississippi State Bulldogs know how to protect their home floor, as shown in recent wins over Florida and Auburn. MSU also won at Vanderbilt, which is the SEC’s worst team. The urgent question for Ben Howland as he tries to get his team to the NCAA Tournament: Can Mississippi State win a road game against a decent team? It couldn’t win at South Carolina and couldn’t win at Kentucky. NCAA Tournament teams need to collect moderately good road wins to show the committee they can win in difficult circumstances. Mississippi State needs some road wins against the middle and upper tiers of the SEC to solidify its profile. Alabama has been able to play well against ranked teams at home, beating Kentucky and (when it was ranked) Ole Miss in Coleman Coliseum. MSU needs to prove the cynics are wrong: Alabama 78, Mississippi State 73. (Matt Zemek)
