Scouting Report
Missouri and Mississippi State meet in Columbia. Mizzou seems to have improved of late. They appear to be out of the race for an NCAA bid but, hey, they’ve won four of their last six. If they can surprise a solid Mississippi State squad on Saturday, they have a winnable game at Ole Miss next followed by a home game with Alabama. If they win these last three games they enter the SECT with a 17-14 (9-9 SEC) record. Then anything can happen in the SECT. Mississippi State (9-6, 18-10 SEC) is in decent shape for a trip to the NCAAs but the Bulldogs can’t afford to lose to Missouri, that would put them on the bubble for sure, if that. After Mizzou there’s trip to South Carolina, a team that would love to deal a blow to State’s tourney hopes. Mizzou hangs its hat on defense, they are only allowing about 65 points per game. By contrast, the Tigers only score 67 points a contest. Dru Smith is a big reason the Tigers are so sound defensively. Right now he has 58 steals which is four more than the second place steal artist in the SEC, Kentucky guard Ashton Hagans. The Bulldogs ride their beast man, Reggie Perry, who averages nearly a double-double a game (17.4 ppg, 9.9 rpg).
This is a hard one to pick. Mizzou has played really well at home, defeating Auburn and others. They probably have the edge playing at home.
