High school football is back, baybee!
High school football starts tonight in a lot of states. One of the biggest games in the whole country is about two miles from campus... IMG Academy of Florida, ranked No. 4 in the nation by MaxPreps, traveling to Nashville to take on No. 19 ranked Lipscomb Academy. No Vandy commits in that one... that we know about yet. But here are some of the other games I will be watching tonight...
- In Chattanooga, McCallie (VU QB commit Jeremy St-Hilaire) takes on Chattanooga Christian.
- In Georgia, No. 10 nationally ranked Buford (VU DE commit Martreece Dillard) opens at home vs. No. 6 St. Francis Academy from Baltimore... another clash of the national titans. The number of future Power 5 players in a game like this, or the Lipscomb game, is probably in double digits.
- Locally, you've got MBA vs. Pearl-Cohn, Nashville Christian at Davidson Academy (VU OL commit Glenn Seabrooks), and CPA at Brentwood Academy (George MacIntyre, Neo Clifton).
Meanwhile, the VU recruiting staff sends out personalized "Good Luck" (in your game) messages to players it covets... here are a couple that prospects have received and posted...

VU commits Dontae Carter and Alvin Williamson, Jr. of Cibolo (Tx) Steele played Thursday night in a scrimmage... Carter took part in this post-scrimmage interview...

Braxton Lawrence is a 6-4 220 utility knife who plays for Goodpasture. He is a senior who got an offer from Vandy about three weeks ago-- he'd be perfect for that Anchor position on defense-- but I'm not sure it's a "committable" offer just yet. But the Commodores are keeping their eyes on him. The Cougars open their schedule on the road tonight against Evangelical Christian School.

Among winners on Friday:
- QB Jeremy (Jay) St-Hilaire (VU's first commit of the 2024 class) was 18-of-24 for 182 yards, and rushed for 40 more, as Chattanooga McCallie pounded CCS 53-13. Carson Lawrence (junior VU commit) had an interception.
- Ensworth (Jaren Sensabaugh) crushed Union City 40-6.
- Knoxville Webb (Markeis Barrett) destroyed Nashville BGA 40-0.
- Buford, Ga. (Martreece Dillard) upset St. Francis Academy of Baltimore, Md. 18-0. That's called Southern hospitality. Buford was ranked No. 10 nationally; SFA was ranked No. 6.
Losers Friday:
MBA and Lipscomb Academy both dropped their openers... MBA to Pearl-Cohn, Lipscomb (in its first game under former Titan Kevin Mawae) to No. 4 IMG Academy of Florida. Interestingly, Lipscomb played Deuce Knight at QB, the junior transfer phenom who just showed up on campus about two weeks ago. He passed for 259 yards and ran for 62.

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
There's a great story in the San Antonio Express-News about the Cibolo (TX) Steele team, which features two Vandy 2024 commits, and a couple of juniors that VU would really love to ink. It's behind a paywall, but I subscribed for only 25 cents for three months. Steele opens play next Friday.
From a college recruiting standpoint, it is tough for any team in San Antonio to match the Knights’ talent.
Carter and senior defensive back Alvin Williamson Jr. are committed to Vanderbilt. Capell, Warner, Cooper, junior Sean Robinson, who will play receiver and spot play in the secondary, have each received multiple FBS offers. Junior defensive back Christian Watson, who played at Austin LBJ last season, was an all-district newcomer of the year.
San Antonio (premium): Tough playoff loss motivates Steele football for 2023
After losing to nemesis Austin Lake Travis in the playoffs, Steele is ready to make a long run
(by David Hinojosa)
No. 1 is S Dontae Carter; No. 2 is DB Alvin Williamson, Jr.

Will Sheppard's little brother Nate, from Mandeville, La. (a junior, not committed anywhere yet), played in a scrimmage last night. Everyone says he's better than Will was at this age. He has offers from VU, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, and some others.

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
An opening week stunner! CPA, the favorite in Division II-AA, scored a big home upset over George MacIntyre and favored Brentwood Academy of Division III-AA on Saturday... and guess who scored the winning touchdown? It was Rawls Patterson... the little brother of Vandy linebackers Kane and Langston Patterson.

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
Can anybody find a box score for Stewarts Creek @ Tullahoma that is not behind a paywall?
It sounds like track sprinter/tailback Javarian Otey had a monster night rushing for SCHS in the road win at the recent 4A state champs.

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
Haven't found a box score, but Otey, a senior, indeed had an incredible night, scoring all three of SC's TD's, two rushing and one on an 83-yard screen pass. He's a dynamic player, for sure. I find no evidence that VU is interested in offering him, but I do know for sure they know who he is. He's got some blistering track times.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 6:09 pm Can anybody find a box score for Stewarts Creek @ Tullahoma that is not behind a paywall?

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
Have you heard anything about a another RB/WR (transfer?) that is now over there at Stewie who has D-1 offers from all over the country and that includes Ivy League academic schools...everything from mid-majors to Big Ten? I'm not sure if Otey was cramped up in the extreme heat last night but some guy named Kenny Jordan that the radio announcers said was not listed on the roster yet came in and tore Blackman High a new one. Apparently there was a running back in Little Rock (Pulaski Academy) by that name last year who was really good (?)BrentVU wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 7:58 pmHaven't found a box score, but Otey, a senior, indeed had an incredible night, scoring all three of SC's TD's, two rushing and one on an 83-yard screen pass. Love it!! Brentwood Academy is now 0-2, losing to neighboring Brentwood H.S. last night 18-21.

Brentwood Academy, MBA, and Lipscomb Academy have all started out 0-2. But... "lots of football left to be played," said every losing coach ever.FayetteDore wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 1:37 pm Love it!! Brentwood Academy is now 0-2, losing to neighboring Brentwood H.S. last night 18-21.

Re: High school football is back, baybee!
Sounds like Otey hurt an ankle Friday; here's some info on that game and the transfer Kenny Jordan you asked about... he made a pretty impressive debut, and Stewarts Creek still won...MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 7:32 amHave you heard anything about a another RB/WR (transfer?) that is now over there at Stewie who has D-1 offers from all over the country and that includes Ivy League academic schools...everything from mid-majors to Big Ten? Maybe Otey can come back for the big road game at Hillsboro this next Friday night. If Stewie wins that game, odds are good they will finish the regular season unbeaten, 10-0 because Cane Ridge who was thought to be the major roadblock has started 0-2.

See some highlights of this game here; Otey wears No. 8 and scores the first TD; Jordan wears No. 24...MrMemorial wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 4:17 pm Maybe Otey can come back for the big road game at Hillsboro this next Friday night.
