D1 Baseball sucks.
In years past they have said they won't drop a team if they win their series. That is bogus enough. But this week SC loses 2 of 3 at HOME to a mediocre Auburn team, but remains #3. I know this isn't that important, but if we drop a series in the last three, I'll bet they won't hesitate to drop us.

Re: D1 Baseball sucks.
And they really stunk up the joint last week when they only dropped us one spot when we got swept by an unranked UT team when we also went 0-4 for the week (sarcasm alert).
I think we ought not complain all that much.

Re: D1 Baseball sucks.
They're still better than Perfect Game which dropped USC-e to 3 from 2, and jumped VU from 11 to 10 this week

Re: D1 Baseball sucks.
And what has Coastal Carolina done to remain in their Top 8 (National Seed material). CC split two games with Wake and are on top of a good (but clearly not SEC caliber) conference. Fourteen of the 17 teams ranked 9-25 have a better W-L record than Coastal.
Warren Nolan's ELO rating has some great differences with the RPI. Some notables:
................... RPI .. ELO
Kentucky ........... 04 ... 26
Coastal Carolina ... 07 ... 18
Indiana State ...... 10 ... 25

Re: D1 Baseball sucks.
Their #4 strength of schedule is holding up well so far. They haven't played many of the 'big boys' but they also haven't played any cupcakes. Illinois (19-21) is the only team Coastal has played so far with a losing record at this point.Versus75 wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 4:23 pm And what has Coastal Carolina done to remain in their Top 8 (National Seed material). Re: D1 Baseball sucks.
And then they come out with a projected Field of 64 which is favorable to the SEC (5 National Seeds and 11 teams total, including Georgia) but does not align with their own rankings.
https://d1baseball.com/projections/d1ba ... s-week-12/
Coastal Carolina (rank 8) is projected to host but not a NS. Duke (rank 10) is projected as the No. 7 NS.
Personally, I don’t see the Selection Committee awarding 5 National Seeds to a single conference. If VU, Fla, Ark or SC slumps a bit, the team could drop out of the NS picture.
VU plays @ Ala, @ Fla, v. Ark
Fla plays @ TAMU, v. VU, @ Ky
Ark plays @ MSU, v. SC, @ VU
SC plays @ Ky, @ Ark, v. UT
South Carolina has the toughest draw. The others could all finish 5-4 in league play.

Doesn’t get any better …
… as they jump Kentucky into the rankings from not Top 25 to #17 (makes sense) but then project the Cats as a National Seed ahead of Florida and South Carolina.
That makes NO SENSE (nonsense?) as Kentucky trails both in the conference standings AND overall record.
To top that, the Field of 64 article states that UK is one of “the final two top eights” then later among “hosts in the 9-16 range.”
