Weekend Starters according to Tennessean
Did not see McElvain, Maldanado, and Holton lining up as the opening weekend starters.

Interesting to see. Mcelvain pitched pretty well down the stretch last year. I wonder if this means Reilly will close ? I wonder if they think his big time stuff plays better in short spurts. Little midweek again?

If no Little or Reilly, the named three must be lights out....

Re: Weekend Starters according to Tennessean
Don’t think so. He’s in a good place. Vanderbilt has often seen players who are not weekend starters as sophomores or even juniors work into the weekend rotation and/or get MLB interest.
Look at Mason Hickman as a soph in 2019.
Relief pitcher to midweek starter to starting the CWS championship game. Drafted by Cleveland in 2020.
Staying with Corbs and the VandyBoys paid off handsomely!
The guy who came on to finish that championship game? Jake Eder, who was a midweek starter as a freshman and then pitched ONLY in relief as a soph in 2019. Started 4 games in 2020 and was drafted by the Marlins.

Re: Weekend Starters according to Tennessean
Little should improve. He had many chances last year to stake a claim as a premier pitcher, and he failed to do so. Hopefully he's gotten better, and will have further chances this year to show his stuff. If he can't work hiw way into a starting spot on this staff, he has no one to blame but himself.
Re: Weekend Starters according to Tennessean
Pink, you've always made good, insightful posts. You clearly know/understand baseball and seem to have some kind of close connection to the VU baseball program. As such, I always respect and pay attention to your posts.
So when you now twice say "Little should transfer", what is your reasoning for saying so?
- Is there a difference in pitching philosophy between him and the program?
- Is he being treated unfairly by Corbs and/or Brownie?
- Is he just not reasonably developing or is perhaps regressing?
- Does he not fit in at Vanderbilt or is struggling academically?
To just say "Little should transfer" is cryptic and leads to too many questions and too much speculation. Do you have further insight or explanation for us? Thanks in advance.
