HERE TIZ: The 17th Annual OFFICIAL VANDYMANIA 'Predict the Season' CONTEST!!
Last year at this time... the virus was rampaging through the nation. Campuses were closed. Some conferences had canceled their seasons, but Greg Sankey had a will and found a way. SEC teams played a ten-game SEC-only schedule before mostly empty stadiums. The SEC and the CFP were both able to crown champions. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt went winless for the first time in school history, and Derek Mason got the boot.
Now it's 2021, and a vaccine is available to everyone. The Delta variant is filling ER's again, but we're days away, and it looks like the season is definitely "on". Fans will be back in the stands, and TV executives should get their product. In Nashville, Clark Lea has begun the process of rebuilding the football "culture" from the ground up. But realistically, how much can he squeeze out of a team that went 0-9 last year? And what effect will Covid have on the season?
This is the 17th annual edition of the OFFICIAL VandyMania Preseason Prediction Contest. You know what to do. Answer the questions below in a reply to this thread. A perfect score would be 60 points. At the end of the season, we'll look at everyone's predictions and declare a winner or winners.
I do this every year, mainly because I am curious as to what loyal fans' collective expectations for the season are. I am the sole judge of this contest. Ready?
1. How many games will Vanderbilt win in the REGULAR SEASON? (Not including SECCG, bowls or playoffs. There are 12 games. (10 points. Integer values only, please. NOTE: Last year the correct answer would have been 0. If a game gets canceled, too bad. You're still picking the number of Vandy wins at the end of the regular season and must hit it on the nose.)
2. Which two teams will meet for the SEC Championship Game? (5 points each. Assuming there ends up being one.)
3. Who will be the most valuable SEC offensive and defensive player, as named by AP? (5 points each)
4. Which four teams will be selected for the College Football Playoff? (5 points each)
5. Who will be this year's Heisman Trophy winner? (10 points)
Make sure your answers are not ambiguous, or I might count them wrong. There are no prizes, just the admiration of your fellow VandyManiacs. Contest closes Wednesday morning, September 1, when the thread is locked and archived. Good luck! P.S. This year's contest is brought to you by Sam's Soothsaying Service, which now holds all rights to this contest's name, image, and likeness.
