Tim Corbin Named National Coach of the Year (VUAD)

Post by admin »

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin has been named national coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball, the organizations announced Friday.

The Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, native led the Commodores to their second national championship in six seasons. Vanderbilt (59-12) set an SEC single-season record with 59 wins, besting the previous record of 54 wins (2007, 2011, 2013). The Dores posted win streaks of 12 and 13 games at different points in the season.

Vanderbilt clinched both the SEC regular season and tournament championships for the first time since 2007. The Dores became the first school to reach the College World Series finals three times since the event moved to TD Ameritrade Park in 2011 and the first to win multiple titles at the ballpark.

Corbin has led Vanderbilt to 15 NCAA tournaments, nine Super Regionals and four College World Series. The 2019 SEC Coach of the Year boasts a 740-354-1 record at Vanderbilt and has coached 48 All-Americans including 14 who have received first-team recognition.

As a team, Vanderbilt led the SEC in slugging percentage (.514), on-base percentage (.412), runs scored (578), hits (770) and runs batted in (541). The Commodores tied an SEC record with 13 players selected in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

And don't you just love it when you hear them interview Corbs. Question: What did you do to get xyz ready for the game? Answer: Nothing. I don't really talk to him. He is so mature, I don't have to do anything. Question 2: Well what did you say to the team after the blowout loss to Duke. Answer: Nothing. They knew what to do.
Now, I don't believe that for a second, but that is his perfect way of saying "that is between me and the Vandy Boys and none of your business."
