Clemson, S.C- Vanderbilt’s Will Toffey had four hits and 3 RBIs as Vanderbilt defeated St. John’s 13-4 in game one at the NCAA Baseball Clemson Regional.
Things got hairy in the fifth inning as Vanderbilt fell behind the Red Storm 3-1 after a St. John’s double scored a pair of runs. However, the Commodores roared back in the bottom of the fifth utilizing a 3-run Will Toffey home run as the catalyst. Vandy would go on to score six runs in that inning and coasted to victory.
Patrick Raby got the job done on the mound for the ‘Dores, scattering six hits over seven innings and striking out three. Raby’s performance was no small feat; the No. 25 ranked Red Storm are the No. 1 batting team in Division I college baseball.
On Saturday at 6 pm CT Vanderbilt will play winner of the Clemson-UNCG game (to be played later on Friday).
