Vanderbilt lands a pair of 3-star athletic players

Vanderbilt Recruiting Update

Vanderbilt picked up a couple of commitments towards their recruiting group of 2021 this week as the ‘Dores look to continue to improve their outlook under head coach Derek Mason.

The pledges of Alan Wright and Ezra McAllister – both players ranked at the 3-star level via the 247Sports Composite – gives Mason a total of seven players in the class so far.

McAllister was the first of the two players to commit to playing in Nashville. The Marshall (Marshall, Mich.) High School prospect is ranked as the No. 107 athlete in the class and the No. 54 player in the state of Michigan. A student as much as he is an athlete, McAllister picked the Commodores over a number of MAC and Ivy League schools.

McAllister projects as a wide receiver for Vanderbilt. He is 6-foot and 180 pounds and he will be an important slot receiver as Vandy attempts to modernize their offense to more spread principles. The video shows how effective McAllister would be in this role with his impressive athleticism. His 1,217 all-purpose yards last season came from both the wide receiver and the running back positions, so he will be able to adapt into any scheme thrown at him and be successful when in the open field.

Alan Wright is following his older brother Michael (2020) to Vanderbilt so the two siblings will be in Nashville playing together, albeit on opposite sides of the ball. Wright is a 3-star defensive back prospect out of Woodward (Atlanta, Geo.) Academy and he is ranked as the No. 99 safety in the nation and the No. 97 player in the state of Georgia via the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Wright chose the Commodores over a slew of schools including Memphis, Maryland, and ECU. One of his key attributes is his versatility in the secondary and he could be projected as either a cornerback or safety in Nashville. He is one of those defenders that is very good with the ball in the air as can be seen from his video he is able to jump routes by watching the QB to make big plays. Wright is also a sure tackler and he is very good at timing his jump to catch the ball at its highest possible point.
