Tennessee Gains Commit from 5-star Linebacker Terrence Lewis

Tennessee Recruiting Update

If recruiting matters – and it most certainly does – then it might be time to give the 2024 National Title to Tennessee. Jeremy Pruitt has been on a recruiting tear during this pandemic and on Thursday brought the biggest commitment yet into the fold in the shape of LB Terrence Lewis.

Lewis is a 5-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 10 player in the entire class per the 247Sports composite rankings. A former Florida commit, the elite prospect joins the likes of 5-star defensive end Dylan Brooks and 4-star defensive back Kamar Wilcoxon in committing to Tennessee in the last seven days.

A native of Hollywood, Florida, the Chaminade-Madonna High School star had a nonsensical stat line as a junior for the Lions this season. He posted 106 tackles including a mind blowing 48 tackles for a loss to go with 11 sacks and a pair of interceptions. Lewis has those instincts for a defender that just cannot be taught and he plays the run and the pass equally well so he will develop into a player that can stay on the field for three downs when he adds more size to his frame.

In this video below it is easy to see why scouts love Lewis. His closing speed and burst to the ball when he is in tackling range is insane. He makes plays on his own by reading the offense and reacting, while also cleaning up plays that his teammates miss. He is able to knife through gaps in the offensive line that no one else sees, being up in the face of a running back before the player has any chance of making a cut to find the outside. His backside pursuit is also outstanding and when he is closing in on a quarterback he has a knack for the type of vicious – but legal – hits that can change the tide of a game.
