SEC commit spotlight: Robbie Ouzts

College football may be starting up around the country – finally – but coaches are still working hard to bring in recruits to complete their 2021 classes. On Tuesday it was the turn of Alabama to land another top prospect as Nick Saban’s bunch secured the commitment of Rock Hill (S.C.) TE Robbie Ouzts.

The 6-foot-4, 240 pound Ouzts already looks like he could be playing college football. He is a 3-star prospect who the 247Sports Composite Rankings have as the No. 589 player in the country, the No. 27 tight end in the class and the No. 6 player to be coming out of South Carolina in 2021. Ouzts chose to commit to Alabama over the likes of Virginia Tech and South Carolina.

The commitment is the 21st of ‘Bamas 2021 class and it gives Saban the chance to work with a TE that is already adept at catching the ball in traffic by attacking it at its highest point. Ouzts is a three-down TE who is going to develop into a player able to catch and block with equal proficiency. He can also be split out wide as a receiver where his height and strength will cause big issues for the DBs trying to cover him, especially in the red zone.

This video shows how Ouzts uses his 4.72 40-yard-dash time and his 34 inch vertical to his advantage. It also shows him throwing devastating blocks in the running game – like on the second play – where he takes a defender off of his feet to allow his RB space out wide. The way that Ouzts catches the ball in traffic – a theme common in this film – will be especially pleasing to the Alabama position coaches as it gives them a great basis to build upon with Ouzts going forwards.
