Ole Miss Recruiting Update

The Rebels new coaching staff led by Lane Kiffin has been heavily pursuing 6-5, 275 offensive tackle Cedric Melton who recently visited the campus.

The Houston area Second-Team offensive honored athlete had at least 21 offers including Texas Tech, Houston and Memphis. On Wednesday, which was not too long before his visit to the grove, Melton publicly decommitted from Arizona. This could be a solid addition for the Rebels who so far have three offensive linemen in 2020’s recruiting class. Ole Miss has gone after him hard in recent weeks and provided multiple visits which now appear to have made an impact.

Melton has exhibited leadership qualities for Klein Cain High School since back in offseason lineman camp. He’s lengthy and can get moving after a couple steps as the Hurricanes regularly used him to both pull and block downfield. 01:44 in the video below is a good example of him sealing off a block that ends up leading to a score. Melton stays on his toes with a technique that will continue to improve. When it looked like he might keep running, he stopped to take the linebacker completely out of the play. Teams like Houston have also stepped up contact for the strong Texan so Ole Miss still has their work cut out for them.
