Monday was a really good day at the office for Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke and his staff. They received word that one of the top quarterbacks in the nation had decided to be a Rebel. John Rhys Plumlee was headed north to Oxford.
Reading Plumlee’s commit announcement on Twitter it’s obvious that his faith is very important to him.
God’s plan unfolds in His time, not ours, for this I am grateful. God has given me the opportunity of relationship with so many outstanding coaches/staff from outstanding programs throughout my recruitment. I trust Him. After much prayer and consideration, I feel God is calling me to serve in Oxford, MS. I am so grateful to announce that I will be signing on Wednesday, Feb. 6th. I thank God for placing me right where I am supposed to be in His Plan.
In addition to Ole Miss, Plumlee ahad offers from Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Nebraska, among others. Plumlee had taken visits to Ole Miss, Auburn, Florida State and Mississippi State.
Plumlee had formerly committed to Georgia but changed his mind after the Georgia staff changed his offer to a blueshirt offer.
Plumlee, who was also heavily recruited for baseball, was rated a 4-star prospect by 247Sports.com and ESPN.com and a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com.
As a senior at Oak Grove High School Plumlee led the Warriors to a 12-2 record while accounting for 4,303, yards and 52 touchdowns. Plumlee completed 187-of-291 passes (64.3 percent) for 2,834 yards with 33 touchdown passes and had just three picked off. He also ran for 1,444 yards on 162 carries, averaging almost 9-yards per carry. He was subsequently named the PineBelt Sports and WDAM Player of the Year.
Watching Plumlee’s video you’ll see that he is quick as a cat and can throw the ball with the best of them. He’s a first class pickup for the Rebels and should help get them back on their feet after two seasons of probation.
Wednesday is National Signing Day. Look for Plumlee’s name on the Ole Miss list.
