New Texas A&M DE Commit Explosive Around the Edge

Texas A&M Recruiting Update

The Texas A&M Aggies have been quiet in the 2021 recruiting cycle but they picked up a big name on Tuesday with the commitment of DE Jahzion Harris. Harris – who is out of Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall is a 4-star edge rusher who is the No. 208 overall player in the class per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Harris is a lengthy 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds and he will be expected to bulk up some on campus to fill out his frame. This will give him the power to go with his speed and make him an excellent fit as a situational rusher at first, before developing into an every down DE at the collegiate level.

The Aggies have been short of pass rush threat in the last few seasons so adding Harris to their 2021 class is a big coup. He is a player that – as you can see from this video – is able to get off of the snap quickly and explodes around the edge. While he is currently a pure speed guy, Harris will be able to improve his moves at the next level and he will be able to use his athleticism to redirect around blockers and make plays.

The video shows just how disruptive Harris can be. He is constantly in the face of opposing quarterbacks and he is able to use the threat of his speed to win inside rushing battles against over-matched offensive tackles. He also has insane closing speed to the ball carrier – be it a QB in the pocket or a RB attempting an outside run – and he finishes plays with the quickness of his last step towards the opponent. Harris does an outstanding job of controlling the edge, never rushing too far up field against mobile quarterbacks and showing a great vertical to swat down balls if he cannot make it to the QB.
