New LSU commit Garrett Dellinger is a bulldozer on the field

LSU Recruiting Update

It is not always the flashy recruits that build a program. There are few positions less flashy than offensive tackle – offensive guard perhaps – but all the quarterback talent in the world is worthless behind an offensive line that can’t keep a passer upright.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron knows this after winning a national title last year and that is why the commitment off 4-star offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger is a big deal for the Tigers.

Dellinger is a big prospect both literally and figuratively. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound prospect out of Clarkston (Mich.) High School is going to add mass and strength to his frame when he hits the college weight room. The No. 79 ranked player in the nation per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Dellinger is the No. 12 ranked offensive tackle in the class of 2021 and the No. 5 player in the state of Michigan.

Dellinger choosing to head south to the SEC and to LSU is a big coup for the Tigers being as he was recruited heavily by Big Ten area schools like Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Dellinger is known for his athleticism and intelligence and his work ethic is defined by the fact he has his own personal trainer who he works with regularly in order to prepare himself for the step up in class after his senior season this fall.

This video shows you how dominant Dellinger is at the high school level. It is offensive tackle play at its finest, not flashy or showy, just a player knowing how to do his job and help his team win. Dellinger is effective in both the passing and the running game. In the run game he excels at getting to the second level after first taking his defensive end completely out of the play. That mobility is a huge plus point. In the passing game he shows great footwork to always keep his defender in front of him and the ability to read and counter moves to keep his quarterback safe.
