Jacques Hunter of Lowndes (Valdosta, GA) High School is the newest pledge to the ‘Dores class and the 6-foot-3, 210 pounder is a player that could prove to be a surprise from his 3-star status over the next few years.

Hunter is ranked by the 247Sports Composite Rankings as being the No. 1,358 player nationally, the No. 81 SDE in the class, and the No. 115 player from the state of Georgia. Hunter picked Vanderbilt over the likes of South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Cincinnati. The pledge also sees Vandy move up swiftly in the overall class rankings, jumping from No. 72 to No. 65.

2021 Vanderbilt Football Commit List

The Commodores had a family tie with Hunter – his uncle Funtaine played LB/DB for the ‘Dores from 2002 to 2006 – and if he is able to add anywhere from 25 to 45 pounds to his frame as a college player then he as the pass rush skills and the explosion to really help Vanderbilt out somewhere down the line.

Jacques Hunter Scouting Report

The clips below show that Hunter is a high motor player with the stamina and aggression to get back into any play. This is especially noticeable with mobile QBs scrambling in the pocket or on bubble screens where Hunter does a great job of timing his attack for heavy hits from the blindside. Hunter is a rangy player and he may project as more of a DE/LB hybrid for the Commodores depending on how much weight he can add. He is a shoulder tackler – showing ideal technique when meeting players in the hole – but he also has long arms that he uses to his advantage to leverage through gaps and make a tackle.
