It was the turn of the Alabama Crimson Tide to pick up a commitment from a high-end linebacker on Tuesday as 4-star prospect Kendrick Blackshire pledged his collegiate future to Tuscaloosa.

Blackshire – who stands at an impressive 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds – is out of Duncanville (Texas) High School. He is the No. 151 overall prospect in the class of 2021 per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, the No. 7 ILB in the class and the No. 25 prospect in the state of Texas. He committed to Alabama over the likes of Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The addition of Blackshire pushes the Crimson Tide into the top 10 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, a rank that will only get higher as Alabama continues to add more players. Blackshire is already the size to play in college, but he is a little bit of a risk as he missed his entire junior year in high school with an ACL injury. His 180 tackles as a freshman/sophomore, however, show the sort of impact he can have on a game when he is healthy.
Kendrick Blackshire Scouting Report
The video below shows how Blackshire uses his size and dynamic speed to impact the game. He is a great read and react defender who always wins his collision thanks to both his size and his tackle technique. He is excellent at getting off of blocks and still making a tackle, while he also shows the ability to defend the screen game thanks to his above-average football IQ.
The video is most impressive for its consistency, with Kendrick Blackshire doing an outstanding job of filling the hole and making a sure tackle play after play. He does possess some impressive rushing skill, but his future in Tuscaloosa will be as a prototypical ILB run defender who just loves to make tackles and punish ball carriers with the ferocity of his hits.
