LSU commit could see early action as a return man

LSU Recruiting Update

They say that the rich only get richer and that seems to be the case here as the current national champions picked up their first running back commitment of the 2021 recruiting cycle.

By Steve Wright

That player is Corey Kiner, a 4-star prospect out of Roger Bacon (Cincinnati, Ohio) High School. He is the No. 10 running back in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings and he slots in as the No. 163 overall player in the nation.

Kiner – who stands at 5-foot-10 and 205 pounds – has the stats and the highlights to have earned that lofty ranking. He is the all-time leading scorer at his school (with a full season to go) and last season he became the first player in his area to score eight more touchdowns in a single game when he rushed for 323 yards and eight scores as Roger Bacon beat Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 58-32. In total, Kiner rushed for over 2,200 yards and 40 rushing touchdowns as a junior in 2019.

The first thing to notice about this highlight video is that Kiner is successful because of his compact frame that allows him to break tackles with ease. The very first clip shows Kiner taking a simple hand-off inside his own 10-yard line all the way to the house as he first breaks tackles and then turns on the gas. He is a home run threat, a player capable of scoring on any play as he combines power and speed to make other players look bad.

When Kiner is in the open field and gets to stretch his legs he is a terror. He is also a quality kick and punt returner – this could easily be his first action at LSU – and he shows outstanding vision in this video to pick holes and make huge yardage in broken field situations. That ability to read blocks and run at arms rather than pads will make Kiner a star at the next level.
