Alabama added another fine player to its 2019 football commit crop on Monday when Tuscaloosa offensive linemen Gabriel Pugh announced that he would continue his football career and education at the University of Alabama.
Gabriel Pugh announced his commit in a Twitter post in which he thanked God, his parents and coaches.
I want to thank God for all his mercy and grace and for the ability he has given me to play this great game. Secondly, I want to thank my parents for always being there and pushing me everyday to be the best person I can be. Lastly, I want to thank all the coaches that made me the athlete I am today and the coaches that have given me the great opportunity to play at the next level. That being said I am now officially committed to the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA. #ROLLTIDE
Pugh, a 6-foot-5, 275 pound offensive lineman and long snapper, received offers from Mississippi State and Alcorn State. Alabama invited him to walk-on and Pugh chose to do that over the two scholarship offers. Pugh, who played in the 2018 Alabama-Mississippi All Star Game, is rated a five-star long snapper recruit by Rubio kicking.
This looks like another solid pickup for the Crimson Tide. They get another big body for their O-line while also gaining an outstanding long snapper- this without burning up a scholarship. When a team gets a walk-on from a player who had FBS offers it’s a big win for any program.
COMMITTED!! I’m so thankful for all the opportunities God has given me and the people who helped me along the way!! Special thanks to coaches @_Mike_McCabe @TheChrisRubio @Coach_Casper for getting me where I am today!!! #RollTide pic.twitter.com/uwyf4z6Mh8
