Player Evaluation: Arkansas commit Isaiah Augustave

Arkansas Recruiting Update

SEC recruiting continues apace with most schools currently focusing on their class of 2023. That is the case in Arkansas where head coach Sam Pittman landed a 3-star running back Isaiah Augustave to that class this week.

Isaiah Augustave is a 6-foot-1, 190 pounder out of Naples (Naples, FL) High School. He is the No. 675 player in the class per the 247Sports Composite, the No. 44 running back, and the No. 103 player in Florida. Interestingly, 247Sports like Augustave much more than that. They have him as the No. 30 running back and the No. 85 player in his talent-rich state.

Augustave is the 12th commitment that Pittman currently has in his 2023 class. His commitment was something of a surprise, with Augustave choosing the Razorbacks over schools including Oklahoma State, Tennessee, and Florida State. The commitment also pushed Arkansas to the No. 7 spot in the nation (currently) in the class of 2023 recruiting rankings.

Looking at his tape below there is a lot to like about Augustave. In 2021 he carried the ball 108 times for 945 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Carrying the ball at almost nine yards per carry is obviously impressive, and Augustave combines speed, power, and football IQ into a nice mix. Interestingly, the first play isn’t an offensive highlight. Instead it shows the raw speed of Augustave as he does his best impression of DK Metcalf to almost chase down an opponent who is given a 20 yard head start after a turnover.

The second play is more like what you would expect from a running back reel. Augustave has great acceleration for a tall player and when he hits a hole he has the stride length to get out ahead of defenders. He also shows a nice stiff arm and outstanding balance to score a long touchdown.

The play at 1:00 is also highly impressive. Augustave looks to have been tackled but his sense of balance is just outstanding. He is able to ride tackles and keep his feet in a tight window, locating the seam to hit and exploding through to score. Augustave looks like a great pickup for the Hogs.
