Player Evaluation: South Carolina commit Trovon Baugh

South Carolina Recruiting Update

South Carolina Gamecocks’ fans got some good news over the Memorial Day weekend when it was announced that interior lineman Trovon Baugh had committed to their class of 2023.

Trovon Baugh is a 6-foot-4, 315-pounder that is going to find a home on the inside of the South Carolina offensive line in some capacity. The 3-star prospect chose the Gamecocks over offers from the likes of Arkansas and LSU among others.

Baugh is out of Pace Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. According to the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 618 player in the nation, the No. 41 player on the interior of the offensive line, and the No. 55 player from the state of Georgia in his class. Committing via Instagram, Baugh joins Zahbari Sandy – a 3-star safety – as the only two players currently committed to the Gamecocks class of 2023.

In the video below you can see highlights of Baugh during his Junior season at Pace Academy. The first play shows that Baugh has certainly been coached on how to finish blocks. He drives his defender 15 yards down the field – potentially picking up a double pancake on the stats sheet – before finishing the play with a friendly reminder that he is in charge here.
Run blocking in general is a big strength. Baugh is a big player, but he is also an explosive one who knows how to channel his mass into power. He is a great fit for the guard position at his height and weight, especially when he adds in the day-to-day routine of college weight training.

The fourth play is also an interesting one given the way college offenses have evolved. Baugh pulls down the line and shows great target recognition to get to (and smash) a defender. It ends up not being important to the play as the running back goes outside rather than following Baugh through the hole he created, but college offenses love to pull players and Baugh looks great doing that here.
