Player Evaluation: Texas A&M Commit Walter Nolen

Texas A&M Recruiting Update

There are standard recruiting wins and then there are RECRUITING WINS. This one definitely falls into the latter category as Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M picked up a massive recruit over the weekend for the school’s class of 2022 cycle.

Walter Nolen – a defensive lineman out of Powell (Powell, TN) High School – is simply one of the best prospects in the entire nation. A 5-star recruit per the 247Sports Composite Recruiting Database, Powell is slotted in by the service as the No. 2 player in the nation, the No. 1 player in Tennessee, and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the class of 2022. The 6-foot-4, 325 pounder grates out at a 0.9998 ranked player. The Aggies secured the commitment of Nolen over every other elite program that comes to mind, including the likes of Alabama, Florida, and Michigan.

As you can see from the video below, Nolen is a player with all the physical tools to be a dominant player at the college level. He is, first and foremost, massive, but he plays with a motor and agility that defy his bulk when needed. That speed-to-power-to-speed equation is what all college coaches are looking for and Nolen has it at a level above anyone else in the class.

The first play on the video is one of explosive speed as Nolen showcases his ability to get off the ball at the snap and beat offensive linemen with a speed rush you wouldn’t expect. The second play is more about his power and ability to get off of blocks – something he is already adept at but which will get better – and the rest of the video is a showcase of just how disruptive one elite player can be to both the running and passing games. Nolen is a beast and he has only scratched the surface of the player he will become.
