Player Evaluation: Georgia Commit Kayin Lee

Georgia Recruiting Update

When you consider how well the Georgia Bulldogs have been playing under head coach Kirby Smart to begin the 2021 season it is perhaps unsurprising that they are picking up commitments from elite recruits along the way.

That was certainly the case this week as 4-star class of 2023 cornerback Kayin Lee pledged his college future to Athens.

Lee – a 5-foot-11, 160 pounder out of Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, GA) High School – is ranked as the No. 121 player nationally in the class by the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the No. 14 cornerback and the No. 14 player in Georgia by the same recruiting metric.

Lee is noted as being a physical corner with a violent play style that may even translate to time as a safety at the next level. Reported to have run multiple 40-yard-dashes in the 4.4 second range already, Lee will only continue to develop as he grows into his body in a college weight and conditioning program. He is a player that works well in press coverage and is smart with how he fights off of blocks and works his way to a ball carrier in the open field.

In the video below you can see why scouts love Lee’s game. The first play showcases Lee’s speed as an overthrown ball – due to him blanketing a receiver – is caught by the diving cornerback as he closes on the football in a hurry. The second play is all about his ability to glue onto a receiver as an attempted fade has zero chance of ever working. Lee may not be the tallest corner in the world, but he uses his explosiveness well in his jumping and he is physical enough to always be in the right spot to make a telling play. Lee is going to fit in very well in Athens.
