Player Evaluation: Ole Miss Commit Nick Cull

Ole Miss Recruiting Update

Lane Kiffin is still hitting the class of 2022 recruiting trail hard and he picked up another commitment on the defensive side of the ball for his Ole Miss Rebels this week in Nick Cull.

Nick Cull – a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback out of Seminole County (Donalsonville, GA) High School – chose the Rebels over a pack of finalists that included Alabama, Florida, Miami, and South Carolina.

Cull is rated as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite database, though some recruiting services like him in the 4-star bracket. He is rated as the No. 356 player in the class of 2022, the No. 35 cornerback, and the No. 33 player in Georgia by the Composite. This gives the Rebels a known haul of 12 commits in the 2022 class including five players on the defensive side of the ball.

Looking at the video below you can see why Cull was so heavily recruited, especially by teams in the SEC. He has a nice mix of skills, both as a pure cover guy where he can use his smooth hips and speed to run with defenders and also a player in the secondary that will come up and make a hit on a running back working on turning the corner. Those attitude-setting hits and his willingness to show leadership are what separate the good cornerbacks from the very good ones.

In the video below, the first play shows that Cull can be a special teams option for Ole Miss, but it is the second play that is more exciting from a week-to-week perspective. Cull’s blitz timing off of the edge is absolutely superb and not a single player lays a finger on him before he buries the quarterback with a huge sack. The third play is similar, while the fifth will really please defensive coaches as Cull slips a blocking wide receiver before making a sure tackle on the ball carrier.
