Player Evaluation: Alabama Commit Kobe Prentice

Nick Saban has done a great job of snagging the best players in Alabama during his tenure with the Crimson Tide and that remains true recently as the program has received the commitment of another 3-star recruit Kobe Prentice to add to the list.

Kobe Prentice is a 5-foot-10, 171-pound wide receiver out of Calera (Calera, AL) High School that Saban has kept in-state as part of his class of 2022. Prentice is ranked as the No. 558 player in the class, the No. 73 wide receiver, and the No. 24 player in Alabama per the 247Sports Composite rankings. While he may not be the splashy and flashy 5-star recruit that often lands in Tuscaloosa, it is those 3-star guys that often form the backbone of Saban’s machine with the Crimson Tide.

Prentice is actually a player that Saban has flipped as he initially committed to play at Maryland. Prentice, however, appeared at an Alabama summer camp where he wowed Tide coaches enough to receiver an offer. As Alabama was always his dream school, the decision to flip was easy. Prentice may be small – though a 4.38 40-yard-dash time will help with that lack of speed – but Alabama has been great lately at getting the most out of smaller receivers with certain traits.

In his highlight video below you can see what Prentice is going to bring to the Alabama offense. He is going to be a nightmare for defenders in the slot who will have to play off coverage for fear of being beaten deep by his speed. As a result, he has plays such as the first in this video where a quick slant is broken for a long touchdown as Prentice finds a seam and just takes off for the end zone. Other plays show him running with impressive power for his size to break tackles and also features a catch where he shows ridiculous ball skills to out-jump a defender and make a touchdown grab.
