Nick Saban and Alabama keep on doing Alabama things as the Crimson Tide has landed yet another 4-star recruit on the defensive side of the ball. Shawn Murphy – a middle linebacker out of Unity Reed (Manassas, VA) High School – is a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder who will be looking to anchor the center of the ‘Bama defense from the second he steps foot in Tuscaloosa.

Shawn Murphy, a 4-star prospect who is rated by the 247Sports Composite Recruiting Network as being the No. 66 player in the class of 2022, the No. 8 linebacker, and the No. 2 player in the state of Virginia. The Crimson Tide beat out the likes of Ohio State, Florida, LSU, and Penn State for the commitment of Murphy who chose the school in part because he is looking for an education to last after his college and (likely) NFL days are over.

As you can see in the video below, Murphy is a stellar athlete who is able to carry 220 pounds and still move like a player thirty or forty pounds lighter. He is explosive and dynamic – Murphy as an authenticated 4.41 40-yard-dash time in his past – and he has a knack of using his agility to ghost past blockers to find – and then lay out – a ball carrier. The first few plays of the video showcase this ability as Murphy shows excellent use of angles to be in just the right place to hit running backs and quarterbacks behind the line of scrimmage. One aspect ‘Bama fans will love is that Murphy is both a sure tackler and big hitter and he will have some highlight moments for the Crimson Tide with his hitting ability. Shawn Murphy also has all the makings of a star on special teams given his unique blend of speed for his size and power.
