Player Evaluation: Georgia Commit Branson Robinson

Georgia Recruiting Update

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs raided Mississippi in July and picked up the commitment of one of the top running backs in the entire class of 2022. Branson Robinson – Germantown (Madison, MS) High School is a high 4-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Branson Robinson is seen as the No. 46 player in the class regardless of position, the No. 4 running back, and the No. 1 ranked recruit in Mississippi.

The 5-foot-10, 220 pounder chose the Bulldogs over offers from the likes of Michigan, Oregon, and both Mississippi State and Ole Miss who were trying desperately to keep him home for college. Robinson looks like an NFL player already in terms of body size, with elite muscle and strength for the running back position as a high schooler. He is incredibly dangerous between the tackles where he is rarely stopped for a loss and turns short gains into intermediate chain moving rushes with regularity. He is going to be a one-cut runner at the college level, a player built to carry a heavy workload and almost a throwback to a different era in that regard.

The first play in the video below does a good job of showcasing Robinson’s vision and feel for the game. He has no business scoring as three defenders converge on his position on the sideline, but an agile cut inside at just the right time springs him past the defenders and out into the open field to score. The fourth play is an interesting one as Robinson shows amazing vision (again) in a crowded space to pick the right hole to attack on a carry close to the goal line. As soon as his mind is made up there is never going to be any stopping him as his powerful lower body allows him to ride hits from the side and carry his momentum to score standing up. It is an impressive video and Branson Robinson is certainly a player to watch develop over the next few years.
