Player Evaluation: Georgia Commit Malaki Starks

Georgia Recruiting Update

The Georgia Bulldogs made waves in late March when they secured the commitment of one of the best players in the recruiting class of 2022. Head coach Kirby Smart was able to lock down the pledge of athlete Malaki Starks, an in-state recruit that had offers from every major program in the country.

Starks – out of Jefferson (Jefferson, GA) High School – is a 5-star prospect. The 247Sports Composite Rankings has him as the No. 29 player in the nation, the No. 4 athlete, and the No. 4 player in the state of Georgia. The 247Sports recruiting experts like Starks even more, ranking him as the No. 13 player in the country and both the No. 2 athlete and player in Georgia.

Starks does everything at an exceptionally high level on the football field. At Jefferson he is a two-way player – he is a dynamic and dangerous triple-option quarterback – but at the college level he is expected to play as a hard-hitting safety or even a safety/linebacker hybrid defender.

At 6-foot-1 and with a frame that projects into the 220s at the college level, Starks will be a monster. He owns a 10.88 second 100 yard dash time and he is quick and dynamic in the hips with a startling change of direction. His versatility will allow him to be a three-down defender for the Bulldogs down the line.

Starks game film below is everything you would expect from a recruit at this level. The speed is evident from the very first play, while the ball skills as a defensive back are also impressive. If he stays at defensive back weight then Starks could be a monster in the return game, but expect Georgia to use all the skills and traits seen on this film to develop Starks into a future high-end NFL draft prospect.
