Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide generally get any player that they decide they want. It is how the rich get richer and on Friday the Crimson Tide picked up another jewel who had nterest from Clemson and Tennessee.

Tyler Simpson is out of Westview (Martin, TN.) High School and he is the No. 27 player in the country per the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 3 pro quarterback and the No. 2 player in Tennessee and the 5-star prospect has drawn comparisons to the legendary Brett Favre thanks to his 6-foot-2, 185 pound frame and his gunslinger mentality with the ball.

Simpson almost bridges the gap between what is considered dual-threat vs. what is considered pro. His 4.91 second 40-yard-dash time isn’t going to blow anyone away – neither is his functional but not extreme arm strength. What he has in spaces, however, is that intangible ability to extend any play with his uncanny ability to scramble while keeping his eye locked downfield to make a pass. He has every throw in his bag of tricks and is a tough and creative player with a little bit of Patrick Mahomes in how he can make unique passes work for big plays.

The video below shows displays Simspon’s high-quality passing ability. The first play is one he has no right to make, spinning out of pressure and throwing the ball while off-balance 50-yards downfield for a touchdown. It is basically a video gameplay. Plays like this just keep on coming – the play at 0:47 of the video has to be seen to be believed – with Simpson leaving defender grasping for air before dropping the ball on a dime every single time. Simpson just as a natural feel for the game that cannot be taught and that is what will see him be a star in Tuscaloosa before all is said and done.
