Ellington's ability as a receiver and lengthy frame translate well to defensive ball hawk skills where he projects as a safety. Excellent vision and concentration. Was given a lot of room to play over the top at safety where he could run downhill to disrupt passes. Great balance and footwork on his backpedal, moves fluidly while changing direction.
