When it comes to big time football commitments you can usually rely on Alabama to get the job done. That was the case again over the weekend as the Crimson Tide reeled in another top-end recruit, cornerback Ga’Quincy McKinstry out of Pinson Valley (Pinson, AL) High School.

McKinstry is a 5-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite Rating system where he grades out at 0.9869 on their scale. He is the No. 24 recruit in the Class of 2021, the No. 1 CB and the No. player in the state of Alabama. McKinstry stands a 5-foot-11.5 and weighs 172 pounds. He committed to the Tide over interest from the likes of LSU and Auburn, those being the three schools that he narrowed his recruiting prospects down to back in July.

McKinstry holds the distinction of being one of the most highly rated recruits in the state in two different sports (basketball). He is a player that if he dedicates himself to football and hits the appropriate training regime to focus on one sport he has unlimited potential and one of the highest ceilings in the class. He is a true game changer from the CB position, making the difficult plas look easy because of his combination of instincts and athleticism.

McKinstry’s sophomore tape is just silly good. He does everything for Pinson Valley, breaking games open on offense, defense, and special teams. His lateral movement and ability to juke is just outstanding, with some of his moves leaving defenders clutching at air when they were expecting to a put a solid shoulder into McKinstry. He also shows up as a solid tackler himself, not afraid to hit a bigger player in order to try to jar the ball loose. His touchdown-saving tackle about 1:50 into the video is a particularly telling highlight as it shows McKinstry displaying a knowledge of angles and pursuit that we don’t even see in NFL players half the time. Nick Saban has an elite one here.
