Texas A&M Commit Analysis: DT Albert Regis

Texas A&M Recruiting Update

The SEC season may be up and running but coaches are still working hard to fill their rosters for upcoming seasons. Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher not only won on the field back in October with potentially program changing upset of Florida, but they were also able to win off of the field – holding off longtime rival Texas among others – as they secured the commitment of Class of 2021 DT Albert Regis.

Regis is a player that has played DT, DE, and TE at La Porte (La Porte, TX) High School and he is projected to be in the middle of the defensive line as a college player. The 247Sports Composite Rankings has the 3-star Regis listed as the No. 428 player in the class, the No. 26 DT and the No. 63 player in the state of Texas. Interesting, the 247 Recruiting scouts like Regis much more than this composite, with him grading out as a 4-star prospect, the No. 218 player in the country, the No. 16 DT and the No. 37 player from Texas.

It is amazing to think that Regis is able to play TE for the Bulldogs given his listed size of 6-foot-1 and 300 pounds. He is a legit scoring threat – half of his catches in 2019 went for touchdowns – and the athleticism that allows him to play on both sides of the ball will be huge when taking on SEC level offensive lines in the future.

This video shows the one-time Minnesota commits’ freakish athleticism on the first play where he takes a short pass into the end zone via a spin move and some high-stepping. His ball skills are outstanding for his size, while his work on the defensive line – in other videos showcasing that side of his game in different individual highlights – is equally impressive thanks to his explosive first step and his nose to find the football and make a play.
