Alabama Athlete Makes the Switch to Tennessee

Tennessee Recruiting Update

The Tennessee Vols are killing it in recruiting at this point in the 2021 cycle. Jeremy Pruitt has been doing a good job of keeping his talent in-state and he is also making waves crossing into the territory of other SEC schools.

This signing is the result of another raid as Pruitt has pulled Alabama athlete Roc Taylor to the Vols over a number of other schools.

It will be interesting to see exactly what Pruitt and his staff intends to do with the 3-star prospect out of Oxford, Alabama. Prospects listed as athletes usually have a bunch of traits that will make them good football players, but they maybe lack in one or two areas to give them a clearly defined position at this point in their recruitment.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 212 pounds, Taylor is ranked as the No. 17 TE in the nation per the composite rankings at 247Sports. While he is listed here as a TE, one look at the highlight reel will show you that Taylor does just as much work split out wide as he does on the end of the line of scrimmage. This points to him being one of those matchup problem WR/TE hybrids at the college level that offensive coordinators love to scheme around.

The very first play on the tape shows that Taylor has good speed for his size and – importantly – can track the football through the air when it isn’t thrown directly to him. The third clip might be the most impressive of all. After a (lazy) cut to the middle of the field, Taylor makes the sort of catch that would feature on any SEC highlight reel as he reaches back across his body to pluck the ball out of the air in a way he really had no right to. His junior season line of 71 catches for 1,316 yards and 17 touchdowns makes you think that a 3-star ranking might not be right here.

It is an impressive tape – one that showcases all the different types of catches that the Vols will be seeing from Taylor somewhere down the line.
