The Vanderbilt Commodores recently received a boost from defensive end Alex Williams who transferred from Ohio State.

Williams played at Pickerington North High School in Ohio where he transitioned from offense to defensive line in his last two seasons. He was the 32nd ranked weakside defensive end in the 2018 class as a three-star recruit who finished his senior season with 38 tackles including 13½ for a loss and four sacks. Back in 2018, Williams nearly went to Iowa State and West Virginia before a midnight offer landed him at Ohio State. More recently, he specifically mentioned coach Derrick Mason in an Instagram post thanking Ohio State and announcing his intentions of joining Vanderbilt.
After redshirting his freshman year, he added eight tackles in seven games for the Buckeyes as a redshirt freshman. At 6-foot-6, 270 pounds, Williams is tall and lengthy and repeatedly uses his height to deflect passes the same way we see on the first play of his junior hudl film. It’s no different than how his senior film starts out, though this time it also leads to an interception. The dividends paid by his time spent growing at Ohio State now look to be reaped by the Commodores who will get at least two years of eligibility out of an explosive rusher, possibly even in time for 2020.
