2020 SEC Football Early Signing Day Surprises

Here’s a look at early signing day surprises for each SEC team.

Alabama– The Tide reeled in Aledo, Texas 4-star running back Jase McClellan. McClellan decommitted from Oklahoma on Dec. 17 and verbaled and signed with the Bama on signing day. The Crimson Tide’s 2020 recruiting class is currently ranked second nationally in both Rivals.com and 247Sports.com polls behind Clemson in both.

Arkansas– The Hogs picked up three signing day commits/signings in 3-star RB Dominque Johnson, 4-star DB Myles Slusher, 3-star offensive lineman Ray Curry and 3-star linebacker Kelin Burrie. The Razorback 2020 class is currently ranked 83rd by Rivals.com and 88th by 247Sports.com. Of course, Arkansas were setback with a coaching change.

Auburn– Gus Malzahn and the Tigers gained three more commits/signees on signing day in 3-star linebacker Desmond Tisdol, 4-star tight end Jeremiah Pegues and 3-star Romello Height. Tisdol had visited Tennessee Dec. 13th but in the end went with the Tigers. Auburn’s 2020 recruiting crop is currently ranked No. 7 by 247Sports.com and No. 8 by Rivals.com.

Florida– The Gators didn’t have any signing day drama. There was some talk about Alabama 4-star DL commit (and now signee) Timothy Smith flipping to Florida but Smith ultimately signed with the Tide. Florida’s class is ranked 7th on Rivals.com and 8th on 247Sports.com’s poll.

Georgia– Georgia signed 17 on Wednesday. The Bulldogs had three signing day surprises. UGA picked up commits and signings from 3-star offensive lineman Austin Blaske, 4-star WR Arian Smith and 4-star WR Jermaine Burton. Burton previously was committed to LSU. Blaske had previously verbaled to NC State. Georgia’s 2020 crop is currently ranked 4th by 247Sports.com and 5th by Rivals.com.

Kentucky– The Cats had two players commit and sign on signing day. Two 4-star defensive linemen, Josaih Hayes, a former Ole Miss commit, and Octavious Oxendine joined the UK crop. Hayes was a former Ole Miss commit. Oxendine had visited Lexington five times before choosing his home state school. Kentucky’s recruiting class is ranked 23rd to 247Sports.com and 20th by Rivals.com.

LSU– LSU had two commit/signings on signing day. Two 4-star players inked with the Tigers in offensive lineman Marcus Dumervil and linebacker Phillip Webb. LSU’s 2020 class is ranked 4th in the Rivals.com poll and 5th in the 247Sports.com poll.

Mississippi State– Joe Moorhead and staff added 3-star DB Decamerion Richardson on signing day. State’s class ranks 25th in both the 247Sports.com poll and Rivals.com poll.

Missouri– The Tigers have been in a mess in a similar manner as Arkansas and Ole Miss because of coaching changes. Mizzou did pull in four 3-star commits/signings Wednesday including LB Will Norris, DB Tyler Jones, QB Brady Cook and RB Elijah Young. Mizzou’s 2020 crop is ranked 71st in the Rivals.com poll and 80th in the 247Sports.com poll.

Ole Miss– New Rebel head coach Lane Kiffin pulled in three signing day commits/signings. Defensive back Derek Bermudez, OL Tobias Braun and DB Lakevias Daniel all signed for Ole Miss. Bermudez had decommitted from Florida State in early November. Daniel had decommitted from Ole Miss but recommitted after the hiring of Kiffin. The 2020 Rebel class ranks 38th by 247Sports.com and 40th by Rivals.com.

South Carolina– The Gamecocks added another commit/signee on signing day. Three star athlete Jaheim Bell joined the Carolina nation. Bell has three stars but he has offers like a 4-star player. He had decommitted from Florida back in July. South Carolina’s class is No. 17 according to 247Sports.com and No. 19 according to Rivals.com.

Tennessee– The Vols added four players on signing day. Two 4-star players in defensive ends Morven Joseph and Tyler Baron joined the Vol program along with a pair of 3-star players, athletes Len’Neth Whitehead and Jimmy Holiday. Holiday had docommitted from TCU on the same day. Joseph decommitted from Florida State in early December. Tennessee’s class is currently ranked 15th by 247Sports.com and 9th by Rivals.com.

Texas A&M– A&M had no signing day additions to the Aggies’ 2020 class. Texas A&M has 22 commits for the 2020 crop. A&M class is ranked 6th by both 247Sports.com and Rivals.com.

Vanderbilt– Vandy added three players on signing day including two quarterbacks. Jeremy Moussa, a JUCO transfer from California, and 3-star Mike Wright. Both committed and signed with Vandy on signing day. Those two will compete with another 2020 Vandy QB commit, Ken Seals, for playing time in the fall. The Dores also added LB Ethan Barr who was previously committed to Tulane. Vandy’s 2020 class is ranked 50th by 247Sports.com and 55th by Rivals.com.

Keep in mind that there could be additions made to signee lists in February.
