Georgia football three keys: Missouri

Three keys Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs (6-2) travel to Columbia to take on a 5-3 Missouri Tigers team that has been sneaky good for the majority of this season. Here are the three keys to a Georgia victory.

Run the ball

The Bulldogs got an unexpected bye last week when their game against Vandy fell victim to the pandemic. While the week off was probably great for the health of the players, it was a little disappointing given that the Georgia running game – that had been MIA all year – was suddenly back and firing. Georgia went for 332 yards against (a bad) South Carolina team two weeks ago. This was just a week after rushing for just eight yards – admittedly with a passing game doing bits – against Mississippi State. Mizzou gave up 566 yards last week – and still somehow won. They won’t win if they do the same here.

Contain the spread

Missouri has a weird offense. They don’t seem to do much of anything, then you realize that QB Connor Bazelak is over 300 yards passing again. He went for 318 against Vandy and 380 last week against Arkansas, content to dump the ball off on short passes and screens to allow his receivers to work in space. It is effective – if not explosive – but it is an offense that will grind its way to points if the Bulldogs don’t treat it with the proper level of respect.

Don’t play to their tempo

The Tigers are an efficient 5-1 at home. Their one loss came at the hands of Alabama and given how the Crimson Tide have played this season the 38-19 scoreline is almost as impressive as their wins. They have a defense that will tough up against the run and they do a great job of controlling the pace the game is played at by being effective on third down. This is a team that won’t make a ton of mistakes, so Georgia has to be careful not to fall into their tempo and have this as a one or two-score game down the stretch. Explosive plays will be big for the red side in Columbia.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). You can watch this Georgia football game on the SEC Network.
