Wright’s renegade SEC football picks

Wright's Renegade SEC Picks

Looks like we will get a fairly full slate of games this weekend, so enjoy it!

By Steve Wright

Week Results: 3-0. Two were gimmies and outside of Vandy scaring Kentucky this always felt like a safe week of picks.

Closest Pick: Kentucky 31, Vandy 14. Actual was Kentucky 38, Vandy 35. A 28 point pick was my closest of the week as the entire conference went offense silly for the weekend.

Season Results: 30-13

(6) Florida @ Vandy – Kyle Trask is going to throw for four or more touchdown passes just like he has in every game this season. He has 28 touchdown passes to three interceptions and is putting on a clinic the likes of which we haven’t ever seen before. Vandy was great against Kentucky last week in a three-point loss, but this one is going to get ugly. Florida 56, Vandy 20.
LSU @ Arkansas – The outcome of this will hinge on if Arkansas’ leaky offensive line can do enough to keep LSUs pass rush – arguably its best unit – out of the face of QB Feliepe Franks. Arkansas has been doing enough to win games despite being last in the league in time of possession and being a disaster on third down. The Hogs have been competitive against all but the elite in the league and their passing game will be too much for an LSU team deep in a rebuilding year. Arkansas 38, LSU 31.
Kentucky @ (1) Alabama – Alabama will be Alabama here. They have won 37 of 40 all-time against Kentucky and there is nothing to suggest that will change on Saturday. The Wildcats have a good defense – last time out against Vandy excepted – and they can run the ball with the best, but their passing attack isn’t close to good enough to keep up with Mac Jones. ‘Bama will run away in the first quarter and hide. Alabama 45, Kentucky 21.
Tennessee @ (23) Auburn – A game between a couple of teams still looking for an identity. Auburn was good last out against LSU and if Tank Bigsby gets rolling then Bo Nix should be able to pass off of his ground game. Tennessee doesn’t do anything well offensively – they have gone over 300 yards just once in their last four games in terms of total offense – and their passing game is a disaster. Take Auburn as the better of two flawed sides. Auburn 32, Tennessee 17.
Mississippi State @ (13) Georgia – Georgia needs QB play in the worst way and all signs point to a first start for the program for USC transfer JT Daniels. Mississippi State can’t get anything going on offense without the players Mike Leach requires for his system, so this is an ideal game to blood Daniels and see what he can do. Georgia 38, Mississippi State 10.
Missouri @ South Carolina – When you allow an average of 53 points over three games – as South Carolina has just done – then it should come as no shock that the head coach gets fired. Mike Bobo is in the interim head coaching spot after Will Muschamp was relieved of his duties and it will be interesting to see if he can turn around a pass defense that has been laughably bad at times in 2020. The Gamecocks will be better, but it won’t be enough here. Mizzou 35, South Carolina 28.
