Ole Miss Three Keys: Alabama

Three keys Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels host Alabama on Saturday in Oxford. Here are your three keys to a Rebel win over the Crimson Tide.

By Don Yates

1. Find a defense

Ole Miss has the offense to beat Alabama. So far this season the Rebel defense has not shown anything that would lead someone to believe that they have a chance to slow down the prolific Bama offense. Ole Miss is allowing over 46 points and 600 yards per game to opposing offenses. The Rebels have to find some way to improve their defense quickly or there is no way they’ll beat Bama.

2. Matt Corral on fire

Ole Miss sophomore quarterback Matt Corral is turning out to be a pretty solid player for the Rebel. Last weekend in Lexington Corral completed 24 of 29 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns. It was a fine performance against a solid defense. Ole Miss needs another outing like that from Corral in order to have a shot at beating the Tide

3. Win the turnover battle

Alabama, under Nick Saban, is usually among the top teams in the nation in turnover margin. The Tide currently sits at a +1.0 and Ole Miss at -0.5 in that statistical category. Ole Miss, especially with a shaky defense, needs to win the turnover battle. If the Rebels can win that along with throwing in a fake punt and/or a surprise on-side kick, that could help sway the game in the Rebel’s favor.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 6:30 PM CT (7:30 PM ET). Watch on the ESPN Network.
