Auburn Three Keys: Georgia

Three keys Auburn

It is way earlier than we would usually expect it, but the 1-0 Tigers face the 1-0 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in the biggest game of the weekend.

By Steve Wright

Here are the three keys for an Auburn win:

Win at QB

D’Wan Mathis was bad against Arkansas. Stetson Bennett came in and was unspectacular but effective as he passed for over 200 yards and a pair of scores. Perhaps the best option however, is JT Daniels, the USC transfer who has been cleared to throw and who should see starting reps sooner rather than later.
The Tigers, on the other hand, have a version of Bo Nix that looks an awful lot better after one game of year two than he did in year one. Nix took a minute to get going against Kentucky, but his final line where he went for 16-of-27 through the air for 233 yards and three touchdowns is certainly more impressive than anything that the Bulldogs will be bringing to the table on Saturday.

Stop the Georgia rushing game

Part of this is down to the lack of a super-efficient passing game. Part of it is down to the way that the lack of practice time has killed the cohesiveness of the offensive line. Regardless, rushing for 121 yards on 42 carries – which is less than that magic three yards per carry mark – against Arkansas simply isn’t going to be enough for Georgia to win here. Auburn did a bang up job against an efficient Kentucky rushing game last week and there is no reason they shouldn’t be able to show the Georgia backs down here.

Use Seth Williams

To say that Williams had a good game against Kentucky would be doing the WR an injustice. He caught six passes for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns that not too many players in the country would have been able to haul in. Williams has the ability to develop into the best receiver in the league this fall and he showed great chemistry with the rapidly improving Bo Nix as the Tigers took down the Wildcats. Watching Williams versus Georgia defensive back Eric Stokes will be one of the highlights of the college football weekend.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 6:30 PM CT (7:30 PM ET). Watch on the ESPN Network.
