Ole Miss Three Keys: Florida

Three keys Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels host the Florida Gators on Saturday in Oxford in openers for both teams. Here are your three keys to an Ole Miss victory over the Gators.

By Don Yates

1- Out-coach Mullen

In Florida’s Dan Mullen the Gators have one of the top head coaches in the SEC. However, Ole Miss now has a gem of their own in Lane Kiffin, a sharper, more mature Kiffin who should be at about the prime of his career right now. If Kiffin can win the battle of Xs and Os the Rebels could shock the Gators and the college football world on Saturday.

2- Bombs away

Ole Miss returns players who comprised over 80% of last season’s receptions. Combine those players with the skills of quarterbacks Matt Corral and speedster John Rhys Plumlee and you have the makings of an explosive offense. If Ole Miss can formulate some success through the air the Rebels will certainly improve their chances of victory.

3- Win the turnover battle

This is a key to every football game. In this first game players on both sides are going to be less prepared because of fewer practice sessions. The team that secures the ball the best while gaining more turnovers from the opponents will vastly improve their chances of winning. Part of this key rests with the coaches. Don’t have your players run schemes they aren’t ready to run.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). Watch on the ESPN Network.
