Last year South Carolina relied on a freshman to run the offense. This year a graduate transfer will be running things and a new offense has been installed. I think in last year’s game with Tennessee, a 2-point loss, the Gamecocks were just beaten up after having played Georgia (a win) and Florida back-to-back. One thing that could be a factor in this game is that Tracy Rocker who was an assistant last season at Tennessee is now on the Gamecock staff.
However, I picked Tennessee to win this in my preseason pick and I still think Tennessee with all their returning experience should be able to pull off this road win. Williams-Brice is normally a tough road venue but with the crowd much smaller (15,000) and more spread out the home field advantage should be less of a factor.
