Ole Miss Three Keys: Auburn

Three keys Ole Miss

Ole Miss hosts Auburn on Saturday in Oxford. Here are your three keys to an Ole Miss win over the Tigers.

By Don Yates

1. Offense clicking

Ole Miss is an offensive-oriented team. However, last weekend the Rebel offense was sub-par. Scoring just 21 points in an SEC football game is not going to result in a victory the majority of the time. The Rebels have to get their offense scoring back in the 30 or 40 points a game range. This is especially important when you have a pitiful defense.

2. Mimic the South Carolina Bo Nix

Sophomore Auburn quarterback by Bo Nix had been a very steady quarterback prior to the loss to the Gamecocks. Up until the South Carolina game he had only thrown one interception in the 2020 season. He is not an explosive quarterback but he is a terrific game manager. However, on Saturday Nix was intercepted three times by South Carolina and that spelled an Auburn loss. The Gamecocks put some big-time pressure on Nix. In addition to the three picks, Nix was sacked three times and hurried five times. Short of scoring 56 points, Ole Miss needs to do something similar against Auburn to have a chance to win.

3. Block McClain

Auburn linebacker Zakoby McClain is one of the top performing linebackers in the SEC. Only a sophomore, McClain averages over 10 tackles a game. He has a pair of sacks and two other tackles for losses. Gus Malzahn calls McClain a “super human being.” As a freshman, McClain probably saved the game against Oregon in the 2019 opener. McClain made a key stop in a fourth-and-1 situation to seal the comeback win. He’s a football player that must be accounted for by the Rebels.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). Watch on the SEC Network.
