South Carolina Three Keys: Florida

Three-keys-USC

The South Carolina Gamecocks visit the Florida Gators on Saturday in Gainesville. Here are your three keys to a Gamecock victory.

By Don Yates

1 – Get over Tennessee

What a gut-wrenching opening loss for the Gamecocks. They hold Tennessee to 9% third-down conversions but end up losing due to mistakes. USC players shouldn’t carry that baggage into Gainesville. They have got enough problems coming with the Gators so they shouldn’t be thinking about something they can’t change.

2 – Hill plays better

South Carolina quarterback Collin Hill had a pretty decent first outing of the season. Hill went 19 for 29 for 240 yards, a TD and one disastrous interception. He was sacked three times. On the interception, it looked like the pass was catchable. Hill probably could have placed the ball a little better but the receiver has got to go all out to make that catch.

3 – Mukuamu breaks out

South Carolina cornerback Israel Mukuamu had a fine 2019 season. Stat wise, Mukuamu had 45 tackles, four interceptions and broke up nine passes. However, in the opener against Tennessee Mukuamu had just a pair of tackles. The Gamecocks need Mukuamu to break up some of the many passes that are going to be thrown towards the Gamecock secondary. A big game from Mukuamu could at least help keep the score close.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). Watch on the ESPN Network.
