Georgia Three Keys: Auburn

Three keys Georgia

It is way earlier than we would usually expect it, but the 1-0 Bulldogs face the 1-0 Auburn Tigers on Saturday in the biggest game of the weekend.

By Steve Wright

Here are the three keys for a Georgia win:

Sort the QB situation

D’Wan Mathis was bad against Arkansas. Stetson Bennett came in and was unspectacular but effective as he passed for over 200 yards and a pair of scores. Perhaps the best option however, is JT Daniels, the USC transfer who has been cleared to throw and who should see starting reps sooner rather than later.
Whatever choice Kirby Smart makes it needs to be the right one. This isn’t an offense that necessarily needs the QB to take over a game, but it does need an effective pass to allow the running game to break open.

Be better on the ground

Part of this is down to the lack of a super-efficient passing game. Part of it is down to the way that the lack of practice time has killed the cohesiveness of the offensive line. Regardless, rushing for 121 yards on 42 carries – which is less than that magic three yards per carry mark – against Arkansas simply isn’t good enough. Running the ball is the identity of this Bulldogs’ team and they need to get this aspect of the offense ready for Auburn on Saturday.

Stop Seth Williams

To say that Williams had a good game against Kentucky would be doing the WR an injustice. He caught six passes for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns that not too many players in the country would have been able to haul in. He showed great chemistry with the rapidly improving Bo Nix and he will be the most dangerous offensive weapon on the field for either team this weekend. Watching Williams vs. Georgia DB Eric Stokes will be one of the highlights of the college football weekend.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 6:30 PM CT (7:30 PM ET). Watch on the ESPN Network.
