Ole Miss Football Three Keys: Cal

Ole Miss three keys

Ole Miss faces Cal on Saturday in Oxford. Here are your three keys to an Ole Miss win over Cal.

Key 1 – Interceptions win games

The Ole Miss-Southeastern Louisiana game was a game where you had to search to find what statistic made the difference in outcome of the game. The Lions actually played Ole Miss close in just about every stat. However, one stat was dominated by the Rebs. Three interceptions by Ole Miss and zero by SELA was the difference in this game. Against Cal, hopefully, the Reb defense can repeat that performance. If they do the chances of Ole Miss gaining its third win of the season is greatly enhanced.

Key 2 – Control Christopher Brown Jr.

Christopher Brown Jr. is a 6-foot-1, 230 running back who averages over 100 yards a game and five yards per carry for the Bears. Brown ran for 197 yards against UC-Davis and has four runs of 20 yards or more this season. He’s a player the Land Sharks must keep contained if the Rebels want to prevail in this game.

Key 3 – Keep on Sacking

Really we mean to keep on getting tackles for losses. Sacking just sounded better. The Ole Miss defense leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally in tackles for losses (27 TFLs). Of course, this includes sacks, eight of those. In reality, any tackle for a loss is a big-time win for a team. According to Stadium, the chances of an offense scoring on a drive falls to 28.1% if that drive experiences one of more tackle for loss. This means getting tackles for losses is conducive to winning football. Keep it up Land Sharks.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). Watch on the ESPNU Network.
