If you look on page 78 of the 2019 Phil Steele College Football preview magazine you’ll find these words about Kentucky’s football prospects this season, “The Cats have plenty of winnable games on the schedule and have pulled 10 upsets the last three years so a bowl is probable but I do not see them matching last year’s historic 10 win total.”

Phile Steele went on to pick UK to finish 6th in the SEC East. Steele, like many college football observers, sees Kentucky recent success as similar to a blind squirrel finding a nut. It doesn’t happen often. Kentucky’s job in 2019 is to prove that the Wildcats are now a force to be reckoned with in college football.. every year. The Toledo Rockets proved a good measuring stick to get an idea of just how good this UK team is. The Rockets had a winning season in 2018. They’ve got half their starters back, one more than Kentucky, but they’ve got their starting quarterback and running back, back. This should be a decent opponent for UK in week one. We’ll know a lot more about how good Kentucky is after this game.
