Challenges for Mississippi State

Louisiana finished the 2018 season with a .500 record (7-7). The Ragin Cajuns played in the Sun Belt Conference championship game and fell to Appalachian State 30-19. Then Louisiana played in the Cure Bowl falling to Tulane 41-24. Louisiana returns 15 starters from ’18 including 8 on offense and 7 on defense. The starting QB from 2018 is gone but the No. 2 who completed almost 63 percent of his passes for 7 TDs and 2 interceptions, is back. Top RB Trey Ragas (1,181 yards) returns as is his backup who nearly had 1,000 yards. Top receiver Ja’Marcus Bradly (40 catches) is back. The team also returns its top tackler from a year ago in MLB Jacques Boudreaux (93 tackles).

Louisiana is a team that State beat 56-10 last season in Starkville. The Bulldogs’ challenge is to win just as big as it did over the Cajuns in 2018. Any win is good but a single-digit win will signal the program will likely be down in 2019. The Bulldogs should handle their business just fine, even in New Orleans.

Saturday‘s game kicks off at 11:00 AM CT (12:00 PM ET). Watch on the ESPNU network.
